Items to Carry (Baggage)

Please prepare your luggage with the understanding that the climate in Myanmar is generally similar to Japan’s summer.

The following suggestions are compiled for a one-week trip.

You should essentially plan for one main piece of luggage (a trunk/suitcase) and one carry-on bag for the cabin. Women may also bring a handbag in addition to these. Please ensure your total baggage weight does not exceed 20 kilograms (44 lbs). For Business Class travelers, the limit is typically up to 30 kilograms (66 lbs).

Note: Since your baggage weight often increases upon return, please leave some allowance for additional purchases. Excess weight may be subject to extra charges.

  1. Clothing

The basic attire is equivalent to Japanese summer clothing, though it varies slightly by season:

  • Mid-October to Mid-February (Cool Season): The climate is similar to early summer in Japan.
  • Late February to Mid-May (Hot Season): This period corresponds to the height of summer in Japan. It is advisable to prepare a hat or a parasol for sun protection.
  • Late May to Early October (Rainy Season): The weather is similar to the Japanese rainy season (tsuyu). However, rainfall is significantly less in the dry zones like Bagan and Mandalay, where the volume is about one-third of that in Yangon. An umbrella is essential during the rainy season.

Additional Considerations:

  • It can sometimes be cool inside the airplane, so a long-sleeved shirt is recommended for flights.
  • For trips to highland areas (such as Inle Lake), mornings and evenings are cool, requiring a long-sleeved cardigan or a sweater.
  1. Necktie

One necktie will be sufficient, especially if you plan to have company visits or other formal engagements.

  1. Sandals

Essential for visiting pagodas and temples, as you are required to be barefoot. Sandals or rubber flip-flops are highly convenient for easy removal.

  1. Sleepwear

It is recommended to bring your own yukata or pajamas, as some hotels may not provide them.

  1. Cosmetics and Toiletries

Please use overseas models of electrical appliances such as hair dryers and electric shaver. (The local voltage is $220 – 240$ Volts.)

  1. Medication

Please bring your usual over-the-counter medicines, such as those for colds and diarrhea, as well as Band-Aids, insect bite ointment, and antibiotics. If you have any chronic conditions, be sure to bring your prescribed medication..

  1. Rain Gear

During the rainy season, a raincoat or a compact, foldable umbrella will be very useful.

  1. Wet Tissues

These are convenient to have on hand.

  1. Flashlight

Useful to have, especially for cave excursions.

  1. Mosquito Coils

Recommended if you are traveling to rural areas..

  1. Batteries and Electronics

Bring a few extra batteries. If you are bringing a digital camera, do not forget your charger. The manual for your camera or video recorder may also be useful.
