The Wonders of Southern Myanmar
Southern Myanmar: the Golden Rock pagoda is known as the “Wonder of the World.” This sacred site, Kyaiktiyo Pagoda, is built on the a huge golden rock atop a sheer cliff. This miraculous rock that looks as if it could roll down at any moment and though it can be rocked with a push, it never falls.
The journey from Yangon to Kinpun base camp, at the foot of the mountain, takes five hours by car, and then another 2 hours to the summit. While a day trip is possible, it is recommended to spend a night in Kyaiktiyo Pagoda and Bago sightseeing on the return journey before heading back to Yangon.
Extending your journey further will lead to more inspiring sites: Lumbini Garden in Hpa-An, famous for its impressive collection of 1,120 Buddha images, and Mudon, where you are welcomed by approximately 200 stone statues of monks collecting alms lining the roadside.
