Inle lake is located on the 900-meter above sea level, a mysterious and picturesque body of water situated on the Shan Plateau and just an hour and twenty-minute flight from Yangon, Measuring 22.4 kilometers from north to south and 10.2 kilometers from east to west, it is surrounded by mountains and the lake is world-famous for the one- legged rowing technique of the Intha people. A boat tour on Inle Lake, accompanied by dancing seagulls, is sure to create unforgettable memories. Visitors can njoy floating vegetable gardens on floating islands, floating markets, and floating villages.
Visiting the Padaung (Kayan) people, a minority group whose women wear brass coils around their necks, arms, and legs, and chance to learn about and appreciate their living traditions and cultural heritage. From there, a two-hour drive takes you through beautiful mountainous areas, Palaung and Pa-o ethnic groups, and tea-growing areas to Kalaw, famous for its trekking trails.
Another two-hour drive from Kalaw takes you to Pindaya, where a must-see sight is the cave temple situated near the lake, housing an impressive 8,094 Buddha images. Nearby is the hidden gem of Myanmar, the village of Kakku Village, whose history dates back 2,300 years and is a majestic artistic site with a collection of over 2,000 ancient stupas.
Located 30 kilometers south of Taunggyi and 900 meters above sea level, Inle Lake is famous for the Intha people’s one-legged rowing boats technique. A boat ride through the lake, surrounded by seagulls, is a wonderful memory. Another enjoyable site is the Nga Hpe Kyaung Monastery, traditionally known as the “The Jumping Cat Monastery”, where cats leap into the air, is also a delightful sight.
