Kyaikhtiyo Pagoda Candle Light Festival (Festival of Lights)

At the Kyaikhtiyo (Golden Rock) Pagoda, located about 176 kilometers from Yangon at an elevation of 1,100 meters, a Candlelight Festival (Festival of Lights) is held every year on the full moon day of October.

The Festival of Lights marks the end of the Buddhist Lent and commemorates the day when the Buddha descended from heaven back to earth. It is a joyful celebration where the lights of candles, oil lamps, lanterns, and electric lights illuminate the town.

People bow in front of their parents, teachers, and elders, and give them gifts as a token of respect in gratitude for the care they have shown them.

At Kyaiktiyo Pagoda, a special ceremony is held on the Full Moon night of Thadingyut, where 10,000 candles are lit and offered to the Golden Rock Pagoda.

You can enjoy the breathtaking night view of the Golden Rock Pagoda glowing in the light of 10,000 candles across the pagoda terrace a truly unforgettable experience that will leave lasting memories of your journey.
